Message from the Head of School
“In all the schools I visited, none had the ‘JCDS factor.’ I never felt the overall warm, friendly, and happy atmosphere that I feel every time I enter the JCDS campus.” — Current JCDS parent
At Jacksonville Country Day School (JCDS), a premier private elementary school founded in 1960, we empower children with the skills they will need to succeed in the 21st century. Our school is dedicated to academic excellence, as well as developing character and healthy lifestyles. JCDS educates children from Pre-K 3 through sixth grade in a safe, nurturing, and multicultural environment. A superb faculty and staff, enriched curriculum, and world-class facilities form the bedrock of the school.
The quality of education at JCDS is second to none. As a testament to this, 65% of the graduating class of 2012 qualified for the Duke University Talent Identification Program. To qualify for this program, students must score at the 95th percentile or above on the national norms of a standardized test.
In addition to the best education available for young children in the area, Jacksonville Country Day School offers:
• A healthy lunch program and daily Physical Education
• Character excellence, which is developed through service learning
• CTP-4 scores in the top of national percentiles
• A leading nation-wide student retention rate of 93%
• Acceptance at the family’s first choice middle school
At Jacksonville Country Day School, teachers, students, and parents are not merely talking about becoming a school for the 21st century, but are actively engaged in being that school. The knowledge our faculty has gained from studying how children learn has been skillfully woven into the fabric of a JCDS education.
Membership in the JCDS family has its privileges and among the most valuable is the license to pursue dreams. Our education philosophy is that every student can accomplish their dreams, as long as they work hard to attain them. In order to develop the “whole child,” our student’s benefit from a wide range of activities — such as fine art, performing arts, public speaking, and athletics — which allows them to discover what sparks their interests.
Thank you for entrusting us with educating and nurturing your children. At Jacksonville Country Day School, we are grateful for the opportunity to help students realize their full potential through our rich array of learning opportunities.
—Terry Bartow, Head of School
