JCDS Enrichment 2012-2013
AmberJax Swimming
Jacksonville Country Day School is proud to announce our partnership with the AmberJax Swim Organization in the launch of the AmberJax Swim Team. Swimming occurs Monday-Friday. This is a year-round program and is sanctioned by USA Swimming. For more information please visit www.amberjax.org.
Art Sharks
Stacy Bowen, JCDS Fine Arts coordinator, will offer classes on Monday through Friday for Junior Kindergarten through 6th grade students. Times for all classes will be 1:30 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. Classes focus on a number of different types of media including drawing, painting, special projects and mixed media.
Band
Chrystal Staples, JCDS Band specialist, offers classes Monday through Friday from 7:15 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. for all interested 3rd through 6th graders. Both beginning and advanced band offerings are available. Private lessons are offered Monday through Wednesday from 3:15 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.
Basketball: JCDS Sharks
A fall and spring program will be open to boys and girls at JCDS in grades 3-6. JCDS is proud to announce that coaches Wayne Leonard and Everette Seay will once again be leading the Sharks boys this year. Brandi Salamone will be coaching the girls' team. Practices will be held on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Chorus
Virgina Dickert, JCDS Music specialist, leads the choral program for all interested 4th, 5th, and 6th graders. Rehearsals take place on Thursday from 3:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.
Dance
Emily Gray, JCDS Dance specialist, offers classes Monday through Thursday from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. for Junior Kindergarten through 6th grade students. Classes include ballet, cheer, jazz, tap, and hip-hop.
Guitar
Instructor Sylvia Kalal will be offering individual lessons Monday through Friday from 1:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Jazzy Js
Virginia Dickert, Music Director, leads the “Jazzy Js”. The program is made up of 4th, 5th, and 6th graders. Rehearsals take place on Tuesday from 3:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. This group is a percussion ensemble using our school's Orff instruments, which are xylophones, metallophones, and glockenspiels.
Karate
Karate will be held on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. in the Smith Center. After karate pick up is at the Yellow Circle outside the Smith Center.
Lego League
The JCDS Lego League will meet Wednesdays (4th-6th grade) and Thursdays (2nd-3rd grade in the spring) from 3:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. During this time students will be exposed to a wide variety of “STEM” (science, technology, engineering, and math) related topics.
Math Olympiad Team
JCDS is pleased to announce the formation of a math team. The program will run in both the fall and spring and meet every Monday from 3:15 p.m.-4:15 p.m. All students in 4th-6th grade are welcome to participate.
Miss Missy's Music Together
JCDS is excited to announce the offering of Music Together® classes on Mondays at 3:30 p.m. and Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. These are parent/child music classes for ages birth through kindergarten. Children learn basic music competence while enjoying a love for music and bonding with their parent/caretaker. For more information please see www.missmissymt.com.
Piano Lessons
Multiple instructors offer individual classes Monday through Friday from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Playball
Coaches offer multiple classes on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. for PreJunior Kindergarten through Kindergarten students. Classes focus on fine and gross motor skill development, movement, listening, ball skills, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
Soccer Academy
Coaches offer multiple classes on Wednesday from 1:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. for Junior Kindergarten through 3rd grade students. Classes focus on basic soccer skills, including dribbling, footwork, agility, and teamwork.
Tennis — Spring Session
TGA, JCDS parent and former professional player Todd Martin's tennis company, will be offering tennis classes to our JK - 6th grade students. The program runs April 9 — May 28 and meets every Tuesday in the cafeteria. The cost is $160 for eight weeks. All equipment is provided and TGA uses an enrichment curriculum developed with its national partner, the USTA. The classes also include lots of physical activity, character development lessons, and an 8:1 student to instructor ratio. Sign up at www.playtga.com/firstcoast.
Violin Lessons
Instructor Jessie Polanis offers individual lessons Monday through Thursdays from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Volleyball: JCDS Sharks Girls
JCDS is excited to announce the creation of a girls volleyball program. Volleyball will run from January through April and will focus primarily on the areas skill acquisition and development. Practices will be held Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. All interested 3rd-6th graders are encouraged to participate.
